Medi-Clinic is an established leader in the private hospital industry in South Africa. With a market share of 25%, Medi-Clinic has more than 50 hospitals countrywide and in Namibia. Our core business is to provide patients with cost-effective, quality healthcare. We do this by offering a wide range of specialized services. We ensure that medical practitioners are provided with the best possible infrastructure in the form of custom-designed facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and above all excellent nursing care.
Medi-Clinic has been the official medical partner to the Cape Argus, Pick'n Pay Cycle Tour for more than 10 years. Our involvement with the cycle race covers a wide range of services and expertise. Dr Basil Bonner, a qualified emergency medicine specialist and head of Milnerton Medi-Clinic's Major Trauma Unit, has been the Medical Race Director for the past 12 years. Under his guidance the field-hospital concept implemented for the race has been developed and expanded to absolute world class standards.
On the day of the race Medi-Clinic deploys 26 doctors, 120 nursing staff and 50 admin and logistical staff at the 12 medical posts and 7 advanced medical care centres along the route. This operation is also supported by more than 80 emergency vehicles – this includes motorbikes, ambulances, response cars and helicopters manned by doctors and paramedical staff.
All this is done not only to ensure the safety and well-being of the cyclists and spectators, but also to support the Cycle Tour Trust in their worthy endeavors amongst the community and selected charity organizations.
